Your edits to Pak-Age-Car aren't the most productive edits I've ever come across. See ] for one thing. Obviously not a very important issue, but changing all of these seems like pointless work and makes reading the code harder in my opinion. Also, Template:Convert consistently uses {{convert|...}} with a lower case, if that's any indication of how we ought to work. Same goes for all the other capitalizations. If there is some official decision supporting these changes somewhere I apologize, and again, not super important one way or the other.

However, some of your edits go far beyond "copy-editing." When you changed "distinct" to "distinctive" you changed the meaning of the sentence, making it no longer true. The rubber gaskets are distinct (as in plainly visible), but they are absolutely not distinctive, rather they are quite commonplace. Lastly, you changed "There are period spare parts brochures which list the Pak-Age-Car as having been available until 1946" to "Period spare parts brochures list the Pak-Age-Car as having been available until 1946". Your edit implies that the car was available until 1946. The original edit makes mention of these few sources which state otherwise while siding with the majority, which say production ended in 1941.  Mr.choppers | ✎  04:50, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

You do a lot of useful stuff but please, stop fiddling with capitalization of template names and bypassing redirects. I realize you think it's helpful, or improves efficiency, but it's not and it doesn't. So please. I know I'm not the first to have approached you about this. @EEng: It is a harmless side-effect of a Python script that semi-automates article edits. To simplify find-and-replace operations, the first letter of any template the script finds is capitalised, rather than having to perform multiple comparisons with various permutations of capitalisation and spelling. To not capitalize would needlessly increase the script's memory footprint, make it half as fast and somewhat more prone to programming errors. It is harmless, as template names in Wikimedia are capitalised by default anyway and it may reduce server computational overhead slightly. — Quicksilver (Hydrargyrum)^{T @} 23:52, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

The use of a script does not justify bad editing behavior. Unless you're authorized to run a bot, you are responsible for every edit you make, as if you made it manually. If a script or other automation tool does not allow you to exhibit proper editing behavior the solution is to either fix the script or stop using it. It doesn't matter that proper editing behavior makes the script less efficient. What matters is how your edits affect the encyclopedia and other editors.--Srleffler (talk) 18:31, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Welcome back, Hydrargyrum, and thank you for your recent work on Kenny Rogers. I did notice, however, that as part of this cleanup there were a few examples of bypassing redirects and capitalizing template names as well (for instance, here, as well as on another article here). Were these edits performed with your script as well, or were they done manually? You took your wikibreak before you had a chance to explain what the purpose of your script was, but now that you are back, I was hoping you could enlighten us. The purpose of my script is to make tedious edits and syntax cleanups automatic or semi-automatic. When it runs, it cleans up everything in the article, not just an instance or two as "minor" edits. What has been said above has merit; (semi)automated scripts with side effects should be corrected, especially when concerns have been raised. WP:HOUNDING is a serious accusation that needs to be backed with evidence and reported at the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I would also recommend being aware of WP:BOOMERANG (this is not a comment as to if it would apply, just a general FYI to consider when making reports). I would also urge you to review WP:BOTPOL as this activity sounds like it would probably fall under it. • Hydrargyrum, let me just respond in general to the complains listed above. You have had multiple editors concerned with your computer program/script/"piece of code that pointlessly replaces lowercase template calls with uppercase template calls". It doesn't matter what you call it, people have issue with it. Now, the sensible thing here is to acknowledge that they might actually have a point, and at the very least discuss the matter in a calm and civil matter. I was asked to comment, but here are my thoughts (as both admin and BAG)

Replacing {{example}} with {{Example}} is a pointless exercise, and one that traditionally the Wikipedia Community as a whole has frowned upon, especially when edits like that are the only edits that happen on a page. Now, some people combine these sorts of minor/cosmetic edits with "non-minor" edits and it's usually not a big deal, but you've been called out on it by multiple people, so it clearly has become an issue. Edits such as this one is why you got blocked. Changing all of the color codes to all caps - why? Adding spaces to "<br/>" - why? Removing spaces from citation templates - why? Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now!
