Is Bowne Park in Flushing named for him or his decendant (here: http://en.wikipedia.orghttps://wikifreehand.com/en/Walter_Bowne)?

MOS:DATETIES - "Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country should generally use the date format most commonly used in that nation. For the United States this is (for example) July 4, 1976; for most other English-speaking countries it is 4 July 1976." . . . "John Bowne (1627–1695), the progenitor of the Bowne family in America, was an English immigrant residing in the Dutch colony of New Netherland, who is honored today as a pioneer in the American struggle for religious liberty." Although he was born in England, he spent most of his life in America, and it is in America where he became noteworthy. Shouldn't the dates in John Bowne's article show the American date format?
