1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001 are all digitised and available for academics and other researchers to use online. Access to individual records is highly restricted. You can get access to information from the 2001 census for small areas such as a postcode through Neighbourhood Statistics (www.statistics.gov.uk and follow the links).
