In 2016 the district had about 10,000 students.[2]
From 2001 to 2016, the number of students who were learning English as a second language increased by 3.5 times. In 2016 it had around 2,000 students categorized as such, with many being from Somalia.[2]
Willie Jett served as superintendent until he retired in 2021.[3]
Laurie Putnam became the superintendent in 2021, making her the district's first female superintendent. All of the members of the board of education voted to hire her.[4]
