He was responsible for paying for unsolicited contributions, for which The Bulletin was noted, and as such came into contact with most of Sydney's Bohemian, literary and artistic community. He was author of an incomplete and as yet unpublished history of The Bulletin. He wrote the introduction to The Books of The Bulletin (1955). He died at his desk.[1]

He was an active supporter of the Book Collectors Society of Australia, founded in 1944.
