The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.

The result was to delete the image.

I am unaware of any free image in existence that illustrates the article in this fashion. It's a photo that the creator of the photo intends for use in illustrating material of this type and the subject has viewed the page and is extremely pleased with it. Otto4711 16:17, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Doesn't matter. It is not a free image. Fair use does not apply to this image in this case, it needs a different tag. However, please do not change the tag to one that is incorrect just to get past the fair use dispute. By stating this I do not imply dishonesty on your part, merely, that others on wikipedia change tags incorrectly just to get past fair use. --Bob 17:14, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

In the absence of a free use image and given that I have the direct permission of the copyright holder to use this image and given that this image is intended to be used to illustrate articles of which Mr Romero is the subject, I really don't see the need for zealous action regarding the article. If I had stolen the image without permission, then fine, go ahead and shitcan it, but given that the image was created for the sole purpose of this type of usage I can't see the problem. if I've used the wrong tag to express that this image is 100% good to use per anyone who has any possible interest in it, please point me toward the right tag. Is the picture of Gabriel Romero or Romero as Fernandito Salazar? ShadowHalo 21:39, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
No idea. It's posted to Romero's website without any further comment. Otto4711 21:43, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Could you provide a link? (We need one anyway or else the image will eventually get deleted as unsourced.) ShadowHalo 21:45, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Never mind, I found it there. The image depicts Romero himself (not a character, which cannot be licensed freely). Wikipedia allows others to reproduce its content, so we cannot use copyrighted pictures (even with permission) when it would be possible to create a freely licensed picture that other people can use. Since you did get permission to use this picture, it may be a good idea to see if they will release one under a free license. See Wikipedia:Example requests for permission for information on how to do that. ShadowHalo 21:52, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
